Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
(Type of Cancer that may be caused by using Roundup®)
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) is a type of cancer that can start anywhere in the body where lymph tissue is found. The major sites of lymph tissue are 1) lymph nodes, 2) spleen, 3) bone marrow, 4) thymus, 5) adenoids and tonsils, 6) digestive tract.
Of the some 90 different types NHL, some are slow growing and others are aggressive. Slow-growing NHL may go undetected for many years and symptoms may be mistaken for other medical conditions. As with all cancers, the faster early detection may increase the chance of a higher life expectancy.
Regardless of how quickly they grow, all Non-Hodgkin lymphomas can spread to other parts of the lymph system if not treated. Eventually, NHL can also spread to other parts of the body such as the liver, brain or bone marrow.
Symptoms of NHL
Symptoms which have been linked to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) according to the American Cancer Society, may include:
- Enlarged lymph nodes
- Chills
- Weight loss
- Fatigue (feeling very tired)
- Swollen abdomen (belly)
- Feeling full after only a small amount of food
- Chest pain or pressure
- Shortness of breath or cough
- Severe or frequent infections
- Easy bruising or bleeding
Some people with NHL have what are known as B symptoms:
- Fever (which can come and go over several days or weeks) without an infection
- Drenching night sweats
- Weight loss without trying (at least 10% of body weight over 6 months)
Potential Cause of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
“A broad new scientific analysis of the cancer-causing potential of glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) herbicides, the most widely used weedkilling products in the world, has found that people with high exposures to the popular pesticides have a 41% increased risk of developing a type of cancer called non-Hodgkin lymphoma,” according to The Guardian.
World Health Organisation Weighs In
The World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified glyphosate (Roundup’s active ingredient) as a probable human carcinogen in 2015. An estimated 75,000 Americans have filed lawsuits against Monsanto / Bayer for compensation after having been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer after using Roundup.
How Long Does It Take for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) to Develop?
Some slow-growing forms of NHL can take many years to develop symptoms and NHL may go completely undetected or mistaken for another medical condition.
A jury in the US awarded a couple who had used Roundup for 30 years a record-breaking verdict of $2 billion plus an annual $55 million for pain and suffering.
